Privacy Policy
Spectres runs on your data being safe with us. Here's exactly what we collect, why, and what you can do about it — written the way we'd actually explain it to you, not the way a template would.
The short version
We collect what we need to run your dashboard — your account info, and the clients, invoices, and projects you create. We don't sell your data to anyone, ever. Payments are handled entirely by Paddle, so we never see your card details. You can export or delete your data whenever you want. That's the whole idea — the details below just spell it out properly.
Who we are
Spectres is a business management platform built for freelancers — invoicing, client management, contracts, time tracking, and the rest of the admin work that comes with running a freelance business. This policy covers what happens to your information when you use it, whether that's through our website or the dashboard itself.
If something in here doesn't make sense, or you just want to ask a person rather than read a policy, email us — we read every message and we'll actually answer.
What we collect
We try to keep this list short on purpose. Here's everything we collect and why:
Your account details
Name, email, and profile photo if you sign in with Google. That's what lets you log in and lets us know the dashboard is yours.
The content you create
Your clients, invoices, contracts, time entries, expenses, and project boards. This is the actual point of Spectres, so naturally it's the bulk of what we store.
Basic usage data
Things like login times and which features you use, so we can tell what's actually useful and fix what's broken.
Payment details — but not by us
If you upgrade to Pro, your payment is handled entirely by Paddle. We get told that you paid; we never see or store your card number. More on this below.
How we use it
Nothing surprising here. We use what we collect to:
- Run your dashboard — show your clients, invoices, and everything else where it belongs
- Keep your account secure and let you log back in
- Send you things you actually need to know, like a billing receipt or a reply to a support question
- Notice when something's broken, and fix it
- Figure out which features are worth building next, based on what people actually use
That's the list. We're not building an advertising profile on you — we don't have an ad business, so there's nothing to build it for.
Payments & Paddle
All payments on Spectres are processed by Paddle.com, who act as the Merchant of Record for our subscriptions. In practice, that means Paddle is the company you're actually paying — they handle the transaction, the receipt, sales tax where it applies, and the card details.
We never see or store your full card number, and we couldn't hand it to anyone even if we wanted to. What we do receive from Paddle is limited to confirmation that a payment succeeded (or didn't), so we know to switch your account to Pro. If you ever have a billing question — a receipt, a refund, a failed charge — Paddle's support can usually help faster than we can, since it's genuinely their system handling it.
Where your data lives
Spectres runs on Google Firebase for authentication, database, and file storage. Your data sits on Google's infrastructure, under their security practices — we're not running our own servers in a closet somewhere. Both Firebase and Paddle act as processors on our behalf, meaning they handle your data to provide the service, not for their own separate purposes.
How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account is active — makes sense, since you're actively using it. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within a reasonable window afterward, except where we're required to hang onto billing records for accounting or legal reasons.
Your rights
At any point, you can:
- See and update your account details directly from Settings
- Ask us for a copy of what we hold on you
- Ask us to delete your account and the data tied to it
- Opt out of any non-essential emails
To do any of this, just reach out on our Contact page. No forms to fight through, no "please allow 30 business days" — we'll sort it directly.
Children's privacy
Spectres is built for freelancers running a business, so it's not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect information from children, and if we find out we have, we'll remove it.
Security
Your connection to Spectres is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS), and access to your account is protected through Firebase Authentication. No system is completely unbreakable — anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something — but we take this seriously and build with security in mind from the start, not as an afterthought.
Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes to how we handle your data, we'll tell you — by email or inside the app — before they take effect. We're not going to quietly rewrite this page and hope nobody notices.
Still have questions?
Genuinely, just ask. Email us or use the contact form — a real person reads it, not a support queue.
